Courtroom Dress Code and Decorum

Dignity, Respect, and decorum are essential to a proper courtroom atmosphere. The following requirements pertain to all parties entering the Whitesboro Municipal Court:

The following are NOT permitted in the courtroom:

Shorts, cutoffs, excessively low rise pants, exposed undergarments, tank tops, cropped tops, muscle shirts, clothing with inappropriate printing, house shoes, pajamas, or any provocative clothing. The bailiff/ and or court officials may use discretion to decide whether something is inappropriate for court.

Decorum

  1. Cell Phones must be turned off or set on silent; all calls must be taken outside the courtroom.
  2. Conversations in the courtroom must be kept to a minimum and not interfere with any proceedings.
  3. Do not approach the Judge’s bench without permission.
  4. Inappropriate gestures or remarks will not be tolerated. Racist, sexist, obscene, or profane language is prohibited.
  5. No food or drinks inside the courtroom; do not chew gum in the courtroom.
  6. Do not enter or depart the Courtroom excessively and do not slam the doors.
  7. Do not disturb or distract the court, counsels, witnesses or other court personnel.
  8. No recording devices are allowed without judicial approval.
  9. All property in the Courtroom and reception area must be treated with respect.
  10. Do not bring backpacks, luggage, or large bags inside the court room.
  11. Respect all individuals, court personnel, attorneys, defendants, city employees, and citizens in the courtroom.
