The Whitesboro Municipal Court is part of the judicial branch of City Government, one of the three branches of government created by the Texas Constitution. The Whitesboro Municipal Court is dedicated to providing a fair, independent, and impartial forum for handling and deciding fine-only criminal cases arising within the Whitesboro City Limits. These cases include traffic violations, minor penal code violations, and city ordinance violations. The Whitesboro Municipal Court provides all persons the right to trial by judge or jury and follows the procedures set forth under Texas law.
The Municipal Court has limited jurisdiction over criminal misdemeanors, traffic offenses, and other violations, which are punishable by fine only, which no jail sentence may be assessed. The Whitesboro Municipal Court also has jurisdiction hearing cases of Code of Ordinance violations that occur within the city limits of the City of Whitesboro. The Municipal Judge and court clerk are appointed by the City of Whitesboro Council for a specified term.
